About
I love everything about the process of making art. Drawing inspiration from a subject, scene, or message, planning a composition, imagining a color scheme.
But then I start.
And all the meticulous planning, projection, and preconception gets lost in the joy of the actual DOING of it. Anticipated structures often evolve and move out of scope, and new ones, beyond my imagining, emerge. It’s like a dance where I can feel the rhythm but I'm not leading.
And what joy is in the following! Is this just flow? Maybe. It feels more existential than that, though, as I’m usually as surprised by the creative outcome as anyone else.

Bio
I am a relief printmaker working mainly in wood blocks in Portland, Oregon.
My dad was a gifted woodworker. So, there’s something about working with wood that feels both nostalgic and new all at once.
When I carve, I like to create layers in the work, whether it comes from building the composition using different colors on multiple blocks, adding chine Collé elements in unexpected ways, or using a range of carving tools to incorporate different textures and scale into a piece.
When I’m not carving, you’ll find me outside in any weather - kayaking, camping, hiking, or in my garden. Any excuse to be out of doors. Wild spaces are my church.
