Biography
Printmaker: Laura K. Cox
I am a printmaker working mainly in wood blocks in Portland, Oregon. My dad was a gifted woodworker. So, there’s something about working with wood that feels both nostalgic and new all at once.
When I carve, I like to create layers in the work, whether it comes from building the composition using different colors on multiple blocks, adding chine Collé elements in unexpected ways, or using a range of carving tools to incorporate different textures and scale into a piece.
When I’m not carving, you’ll find me outside in any weather - kayaking, camping, hiking, or in my garden. Any excuse to be out of doors. Wild spaces are my church.
